VAN - Detainee Van Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Co-chair Kaya was given 8 years 3 months jailtime in a case he was tried.
Van Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Co-chair Bekir Kaya and the municipality personel Cuma Köylüoğlu, Çetin Çiftçi, Zelal Tanlı, Mehmet Yalım Eryiğit, Can Tayan and MEYA-DER administrators İdris Şaybak and Neriman Uyar was tried in Van 2nd Criminal Court for the charges "Unlawful assembly ","Being a member of an illegal organisation", "Make a threat using the names of crime organisations" and "Knowingly and willfully aiding an organisation".
Kaya as his last defence, said :" Its not important for me to be punished but be fair to other friends that are tried here." Court decided for Bekir Kaya to be sentenced for jail for 8 years and 3 months, municipality personel Bekir Kıran, Çetin Çiftçi, Cuma Köylüoğlu, İdris Şaybak and Neriman Uyar to be sentenced to jail for 2 years and a month. Zelal Tanlı ,Mehmet Yalım Eryiğit and Can Tayan was released.
