ISTANBUL - Eda Önal, the lawyer of ill prisoner Abdulkadir Kuday, stated that her client was not given water and his food was thrown in front of him.

The condition of Abdulkadir Kuday, who is being held in Metris Type R Prison No. 2 and has ALS (a fatal muscle and nerve disease) and who has not been released despite medical board reports, is deteriorating day by day. Kuday, who has many diseases besides ALS, was taken to Istanbul Başakşehir Çam Sakura City Hospital on August 22 due to problems with his lungs. After being hospitalized for 4 days, Kuday was discharged and taken back to prison.

On September 2, Kuday's lawyer Eda Önal, a member of the Association of Lawyers for Freedom (ÖHD), stated that her client was brought to the visit on a stretcher.

HIS FOOD WAS THROWN IN FRONT OF HIM, HE WAS NOT GIVEN WATER

Stating that almost all of Kuday's internal organs had failed, Önal stated that his client was subjected to ill-treatment in the hospital. Önal said: “Abdulkadir Kuday asked for water but was not given any. They threw the food in front of him. He cannot take care of his own needs on his own. That is why the caregivers did not do his personal care and cleaning.”

ILL-TREATMENT DURING TREATMENT

Önal continued his words as follows: “Doctors told us that our client was not given an accompanying person because he refused to accept the treatment. However, when we asked our client about this situation, he stated that he wanted to be treated but refused because of the ill-treatment he was subjected to during the treatment. He stated that he was treated inhumanely.”

Stating that Kuday has dropped to 40 kilograms, cannot swallow and cannot express himself, “He says he will die now. That's why he wants a treatment process worthy of human dignity and to spend his last days with his family. We don't have the chance to meet much anyway. We can see him for 15-20 minutes because he has difficulty speaking” she said.

CONSTUTIONAL COURT APPLICATION FOR CAUTION

Önal stated that they will apply to the Constitutional Court (AYM) for an injunction for Kuday's release and that they will also apply to the Ministry of Justice's Directorate of Criminal Affairs for a presidential pardon.
