Ali Yaşa, released on his deathbed, dies

AMED - Mehmet Ali Yaşa, a prisoner with advanced cancer who was released 74 days before the end of his 30-year sentence, died in Finland where he had gone for treatment. 
 
Prisoner Mehmet Ali Yaşa, who was released from Malatya Type T Closed Prison 74 days before completing his 30-year sentence, died. The lawyer of Yaşa, who was suffering from advanced cancer, applied to the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office for a stay of execution and it was decided to suspend the execution of his sentence for 6 months. Following this decision, Yaşa was released on February 16, 2024.
 
Yaşa, who was being treated at Malatya Training and Research Hospital, died 45 days ago in Finland, where he had gone for treatment and to see his family. It is learned that Yaşa's body will be buried in Yeniköy Cemetery in Rezan district of Amed (Diyarbakır-Kurdistan) center after the procedures.  
 
Yaşa was detained in Diyarbakır in 1994 and sentenced to life imprisonment (36 years) by the State Security Court (DGM) on the charge of "disrupting the unity of the state".
