AMED - Amed Bar Association filed a criminal complaint against individuals who made racist posts on their virtual media accounts regarding the fire that broke out between Mêrdîn and Amed.

After the fire broke out between Amed's (Diyarbakır-Kurdistan) Xana Axpar (Çınar) and Mêrdîn's (Mardin-Kurdistan) Şemrex (Mazıdağı) districts, many people shared racist posts on their virtual media accounts. Amed Bar Association filed a criminal complaint with the Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office against individuals who made racist posts on the grounds of "Openly Inciting or Humiliating the People to Hatred and Hostility".

The criminal complaint stated the following: “(…) some social media users shared insulting posts about the citizens affected by the fire. When the contents of the posts are examined, it is seen that they contain hatred and insults towards the citizens who were damaged by the fire, a hostile attitude towards the Kurdish identity, and marginalizing discourses.”

The Bar Association also submitted the posts in question to the prosecutor's office.
