IZMIR - A photo sent to prisoner Murat Aslan in Izmir Kırıklar Prison was confiscated on the grounds that "There is no family member in the photo".

A photograph sent to prisoner Murat Aslan in Izmir Kırıklar No. 1 Type F High Security Closed Prison was confiscated by the prison administration on December 21, 2023. The prison administration cited the reason for confiscating the photograph as "it could not be determined whether the photograph belonged to a family member." Aslan appealed to the Izmir Execution Judgeship against the decision on January 4.

LAWYER BAYRAK: THE DECISION IS UNLAWFUL

Aslan's lawyer, Sidal Bayrak, applied to the Izmir 1st High Criminal Court. Bayrak emphasized in his application that the decision was unlawful. He pointed out that in the application, it was not the client who would prove that the people in the photograph were family members, but the administration and the Izmir 1st Execution Judgeship who claimed otherwise were right. In the application, it was stated that: "However, without any research and examination to prove his claim, 'it could not be determined that he was a family member' on paper. However, it could not be determined that the people in the photograph were not family members. It is against the law to confiscate the photographs that keep the client, who has been in prison for many years, morally strong and strengthen his ties with the outside world, his family and his loved ones.”

YELLOW, RED AND GREEN COLORS ARE PROHIBITED

On the other hand, it was learned that prisoners in the same prison, Doğukan Akbaba, Barış Atmaca, Ramazan Taş, Sami Oztürk, Erol Şen, Turgut Koyuncu, Cevher Ay and Recep Sürme, were not given the yellow, red and green colored beads they demanded in the courses they attended to make bracelets. It was stated that the demand in question was not given on the grounds that it "represents the colors of the PKK".
