An attack was carried out against the base of the Coalition Forces located at the airport in the city of Hewlêr in the Federated Kurdistan Region of Iraq. A huge explosion was heard in the city at 04:00 early in the morning. In the following hours, it was understood that the explosion was caused by an attack on the Coalition Forces base at the airport.
The attack was carried out with 4 drones. The drones on which the attacks were carried out were destroyed by air defense systems. It is also stated that an emergency warning alarm was sounded at the US consulate in Hewlêr due to the attack.
The attack was claimed by the organization called "Iraqi Islamic Resistance", which is known to be among the pro-Iran Shiite militia groups. In the written statement made through the Telegram accounts affiliated with the group, it was reported that it attacked 4 US bases in Iraq and Syria.
The US Department of Defense (Pentagon) announced yesterday that at least 45 US soldiers and employees were "slightly" injured in 38 attacks on US forces in Iraq and Syria since October 7.
US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, in his statement after his meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani in Baghdad, said: "I made it very clear that the threats and attacks of Iran's allied militias are unacceptable. We do not want to conflict with Iran. We want to protect our people. We will take every important step."
