Handcuffed examination imposed on journalist Müftüoğlu

ANKARA - Handcuffed examination was imposed on journalist Dicle Müftüoğlu and some prisoners held in Sincan Women's Prison.
 
Prisoners in Sincan Women's Closed Prison are subjected to handcuffed examination and coercion. According to information obtained from lawyers; On August 17, patient prisoner Rihan Kavak Özbek, who was taken to Sincan State Hospital for a mammogram by urgent transfer, was forced to take a coercion. After he was taken down from the ring in front of the hospital, the soldiers tried to grab Özbek's arm. Özbek, who did not accept this situation, said: “I have never been taken to hospitals with such a implementation until today. We will not accept it from now on." Thereupon, the female soldier commander got angry and said to the soldier next to her, “Get back into the vehicle quickly. She doesn't want to be treated. Özbek said: "I want to be treated, but you are preventing us from getting examinations with your implementations." Özbek was taken back to prison without a mammogram.
 
MÜFTÜOĞLU: IT IS AGAINST HUMAN DIGNITY
 
On August 18, Dicle Fırat Journalists Association (DFG) Co-chairperson and Mezopotamya Agency (MA) editor Dicle Müftüoğlu and Saadet Akın, who were referred to the internal medicine department of Sincan Prison Campus Hospital, were subjected to an examination in handcuffs. The female soldier commander, who imposed a handcuffed examination on Müftüoğlu, who asked for her handcuffs to be released at the entrance of the doctor's room, said: "I will not open the handcuffs just because you want them to, but I will open them if the doctor requests it." Reacting to the situation, Müftüoğlu stated that she did not accept the imposition of a handcuffed examination and said: “You are imposing a handcuffed examination on me. This situation is against human dignity, I cannot accept it."
 
While the internal medicine doctor said: "Just sit down, explain your problem, and then we will look at it" in order to normalize the examination in handcuffs, Müftüoğlu emphasized that this situation was to legitimize the examination in handcuffs. Müftüoğlu said: "I will not sit down unless the handcuffs are removed from my hands." Thereupon, the doctor asked the soldier: "If you have a key and I won't cause you any trouble, can you open it?"  The doctor, who listened to the complaint without even looking at Müftüoğlu's face, said: "Okay, okay, give blood for analysis" and took Müftüoğlu out of the room.
 
Then, Saadet Akın, who entered the room, was subjected to an examination in handcuffs. At Akın's insistence, her handcuffs were removed during the examination. The prisoners filed a criminal complaint against the soldiers and the doctor to the prosecutor's office.
