ŞIRNAK - The release of Ahmet Zenger, a 30-year-old ill prisoner in Espiye Type L Prison, was postponed for the second time for 6 months because he did not accept the imposition of "regret".

Ahmet Zenger (63), whose house was raided by soldiers in 1993 in the village of Xirabêşeref in the Hezex (İdil) district of Şirnex(Şırnak), was detained under torture. Zenger was sentenced to 36 years in prison for "destroying the unity and integrity of the state" by the State Security Court (DGM), where he was taken. Zenger, whose prison sentence was completed on February 4, was not released on the grounds that he did not accept the imposition of "regret" by the Giresun Espiye Type L Closed Prison Administration and Observation Board. The Administration and Monitoring Board delayed Zenger's release for 6 months. The release of Zenger, who was once again brought to the board, was extended for another 6 months for the same reason.

THE REASON FOR 'I DO NOT REGRET'

Expressing that his uncle had completed his 30-year sentence on February 4 and should be released, Veysi Zenger said: “The 6-month burning period given to my uncle on August 4 is ending and he had to be released. However, in his phone call, he stated that he was re-arranged last week and that his execution was postponed for another 6 months for the same reason. He was one week away from his release when his release was first postponed. Their wards were raided and they were subjected to insults and physical violence. He was sentenced to death with Sudanese excuses and his release was postponed. He has been imprisoned for 30 years without reason and without proof. When he was taken, he was taken among his children. What kind of crime can he commit if he has been in prison for 30 years? He was sentenced to 6 months of execution just because he said 'I don't regret' to his family on the phone. The Board is one with its prosecutor and director, and arbitrarily releases whatever it wants and does not release what it does not want. This board has put itself in the place of the court. This is unlawful and unacceptable."

'ERDOĞAN CAN NOT TOLERATE KURDS'

Expressing that the release of the prisoners were arbitrarily postponed, Zenger said: “If he had thought like them, he would have been released. Erdoğan cannot tolerate the Kurds. But let them know that one day they will need justice too. If there was justice and law, my uncle would be with his children now. We call for the release of all prisoners, especially ill prisoners. We will be with our prisoners until our last breath. They didn't commit crimes. Whatever the legal process is, we will seek our rights and we will not let it go.”
