ISTANBUL - Relatives of the prisoners, who stated that they would shout for the freedom of all political prisoners, especially PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan, during Newroz called, "Let's come to Newroz and light the fire of Newroz together to end the isolation."
The Newroz of 2023, which will be held with the motto "Everywhere is Newroz, everytime is freedom", will bring people together in Yenikapı Square in Fatih district on Sunday, March 19 in Istanbul. Relatives of the prisoners, who carried out the sit-in action for the release of the ill and prisoners whose execution was burned at many points in Istanbul throughout the year, will also take their place in the Newroz area and voice their demands once again.
'WE WILL SHOW FREEDOM'
Stating that Newroz, which means "the arrival of spring" for other peoples, represents the "resistance" against oppression and persecution for the Kurdish people, the prisoner's relative, Fince Akman said: "I remember the old Newroz, there was a lot of violence. They didn't let us celebrate. But we were still lighting the fire by burning car wheels between the neighborhoods. This year's Newroz will be the Newroz of peace.”
Referring to the isolation imposed upon PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan'ın İmralı Type F High Security Prison, Akman said: “We will shout for the freedom of both Öcalan and our children. There has been no news from Abdullah Öcalan for two years. No one can intimidate us. There is no such thing in any religion or law. In the upcoming election, we will try to get the AKP and MHP to overthrow, we will not sit at home."
'LET'S LIGHT THE FIRE TOGETHER'
Wishing that this year's Newroz will lead to the end of the Imrali isolation, the prisoner's relative Kumru Akgül made the following call to everyone, especially to all the imprisoned mothers: "I hope this year's Newroz will be the Newroz of Freedom for the Kurdish people and the prisoners. In order to liberate Öcalan and break the isolation, I say to all mothers, 'put on your clothes, let's light the Newroz fire together'. If we will not be united, we will go one by one.”
'WE WILL RELEASE ÖCALAN'
Gülsüm Öztürk, the prisoner's relative, who invited everyone from 7 to 70 to the Yeni Kapı on March 19, said: "We will not stop until Öcalan is released. We will release Öcalan. We women got to know life and freedom thanks to him. Our call is: Mr. Abdullah Öcalan should be released. We don't want bloodshed anymore, we want mothers' tears to stop."
