9 young people from ESP, SGDF and SKM arrested in Istanbul

ISTANBUL- 9 ESP, SGDF and SKM members were arrested for their posts and negative statements on social media about those who lost their lives fighting against ISIS in Kobanê.
 
As part of an investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, police raided many houses in Istanbul, Ankara and Adana on March 12. 11 people, including Socialist Party of the Oppressed (ESP) Party Council, Socialist Youth Associations Federation (SGDF), Socialist Women's Council (SKM) members and Elif Bayburt from Effective News Agency, were detained with this raid.
 
A confidentiality order was made on the file of the names in question, who were taken to the Istanbul Security Directorate on Vatan Street, on the same day, and it was stated that these names were killed in Kobanê while fighting against ISIS, Suphi Nejat Ağırnaslı, Ivana Hoffman and ISIS in Northern and Eastern Syria. It was learned that they were charged with the social media post about many fighters who lost their lives while fighting against. In addition, the names accused of Berfin Ayırkan's unfavorable statements were charged with "being a member of MLKP". However, the detainees condemned the detention and exercised their "right to remain silent".
 
9 NAMES ARRESTED
 
Journalists Elif Bayburt and Barış Yılmaz, who were among the names taken to the Istanbul Courthouse in Çağlayan today to be brought to the prosecutor's office, were referred to the Criminal Judgeship of Peace to be released on the condition of judicial control following the prosecution proceedings, while 9 detainees were referred with a request for arrest. Alev Özkiraz, Birkan Polat, Can Papila, Deniz Bahçeci, Okan Danacı, Özge Doğan, Senem Nur Pektaş, Şükran Yaren Tuncer and Tanya Kara, who were referred to the judgeship, were arrested on the grounds of Ayırkan's statements.
 
All the arrested names had previously been involved in political activities within the SGDF.
