VAN - Kurdish political prisoner Metin Uyar, who has been on a hunger strike for 40 days in Espiye Type L Closed Prison, said, "We want the İHD, bar associations and those fighting against this torture system to hear our voices. If the isolation ends, this torture will end."

Metin Uyar, who has been on a hunger strike for 40 days in Giresun Espiye Type L Closed Prison against violations of rights and the pressure of the administration, spoke to his family on the phone in the morning. Stating that the isolation on PKK Leader Öcalan has spread to all prisons, Uyar said, "With this isolation, people's dignity, humanity and identity are trampled on. There is a fascist administration in Espiye Prison. They directly attack our Kurdish identity here. There is physical and psychological torture here. They don't take our friends to the hospital, they don't give us books in Kurdish. Our wards are being raided systematically. A few of our friends were beaten and they received a disciplinary punsihment. We have sick friends who are on the verge of death here."

'RIGHTS DEFENDERS MUST DO THEIR PART'

Noting that guards are searching the inside of their mouths when they are referred to the hospital, Uyar said, "So they want us to make a choice between dignity and health. We will not compromise our dignity even if we lose our lives, even if we are all killed. This dignity is our value and our struggle. What we have experienced is directly connected with isolation. I don't even know what will happen to me aft5er I tell you these. We will resist and we will never take a step back. Our families and all rights institutions must do their part. We want the İHD, bar associations and those who fight against this torture system to hear our voices. If the isolation is lifted, this torture will end."
