DİYARBAKIR - A lawsuit has been filed against Xwebûn Newspaper Grant Holder Kadri Esen for allegedly "propagandizing for a terrorist organization" for his post in social media.

A lawsuit was filed against Kadri Esen, the Grant Owner of the newspaper Xwebûn, published in Kurdish on the charge of "Propagandising a terrorist organization". A photo that Esen shared on his social media account on April 9, 2018 was made the subject of accusation by the Department of Combating Cybercrime of the General Directorate of Security.

PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE ACCUSED ESEN OF INCITING A RIOT

The one-page indictment prepared by the Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office was accepted by the Diyarbakır 10th High Criminal Court. In the indictment demanding a sentence of 1 to 5 years of imprisonment for Esen, it was deemed a crime that Esen shared a photograph of a woman with a rifle in her hand, who was considered to be a member of the organization. Prosecutor claimed that Esen was trying to create the perception of citizens of Kurdish origin that actions to revolt against the state should be increased.

The prosecutor stated that the posts included the issues of legitimizing and praising the forceful and violent methods of a terrorist organization and encouraging the use of these methods, and demanded that Esen be punished for "propagandising a terrorist organization".

The first hearing of the case against Esen will be held on September 21.
