İSTANBUL - The police removed the May Day banners of the HDP from all districts of Istanbul. The posters bore messages such as "Not the virus but capitalism kills" and "Long live women's solidarity".

The banners hung up by the the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) to mark May 1 have been removed by the police in all districts of Istanbul. Yesterday, the police urged the HDP provincial association to remove the banners by order of the governor's office. In response to HDP’s objection that other parties had also put up posters, the police argued that those only talked about work. The HDP left its banners hanging, and they were then torn down by the police last night.

The HDP's banners read in Turkish and Kurdish: "Not the virus but capitalism kills", "For our work, our bodies, our identity and our freedom: Long live women's solidarity", "Hunger at home, danger of infection at work: Make it possible to stay at home! and "Build a new life with work, peace, health and solidarity".
