DİYARBAKIR - 24 people had been detained in house raids in 8 neighborhoods in Diyarbakır’s Çınar, Bağlar and Kayapınar districts on 8 December 2019 and 21 of them had been remanded in custody for alleged “membership to a terrorist organisation”.
In the scope of the same operation, 20 more people have been taken into custody later on, including HDP (Peoples’ Democratic Party) Party Assembly member Mesut Bağcık.
After 11 days in custody, 17 of the 20 detainees who were referred to court with the accusation of “aiding, abetting and operating in the name of an armed organisation”.
While Bağcık and 12 other people have been remanded in custody for alleged “membership to a terrorist organisation”, three detainees were released on condition of judicial control.
On the other hand, HDP Youth Council members Mesut Ağırtaş and Yılmaz Uzun, who were detained on 19 January, had their detention period extended for another 4 days.
It is not known what the detainees are accused of as confidentiality order has been issued for the investigation.
