İSTANBUL - Katrin Nikolao evaluating Turkey's targeting christians in its attacks against North and East Syria, said: "They are aiming a wave of migration with their attacks in the region. The goal is to make those people migrate from there."
Armenian, Syriac, Yazidi and christian people are being forced into migration as a result of the attacks of Turkey against North and East Syria. While the faith centers are being targeted at the attacks against Derbesiyé, people's settlements were bombed between the Assyrian church and the Great Dirbesiyé Mosque. Priest Hovsep Petoyan and his father Abraham from the Armenian Catholic Church on their way to Deirizor in Qamishlo lost their lives as a result of an armed attack. Katrin Nikolao and Edip Aslan reacted to these attacks.
'THE AIM IS TO MAKE THE PEOPLE MIGRATE'
Describing the murder of priest Hovsep Petoyan and his father Abraham in Deyrizor as a provocation, Nikolao said: "They want to create a new wave of migration in the region with these attacks. The goal is to migrate those people from there. It is a painful event that has always happened in our history of migration. I'm one of the grandchildren of the 1915 events. Our people were then massacred and scattered all over the world. Anatolia and Mesopotamia region is a region that processes like this are constantly being experienced, there is no end to war and migration."
Nikolao emphasizing that a new community is wanted to be established in the safe zone with Turkey's attacks, said: "Turkey wants to invade that area. Maybe they don't want to drive the Armenians from there but they want to create a space for them to establish a new formation. Turkey do not want the self- government in that region because they see that as a threat for themselves."
Assyrian Edip Aslan stated that the peoples in the Middle East have been facing wars for a hundred years, said: "What is important for us it to know who are the powers behind ISIS. We know the Turkey backed paramilitary Syrian National Army from the mentality from 1915 genocide. The world needs to see this. They massacred the clergy in Syria. This is a hate crime. Attacking the symbols of a religion is to annihilate an entire community. All democratic forces must unite and change this dictatorship."
