The Basque Parliament declaration which united all parties in the assembly said: "Turkey has begun the invasion of Rojava, a Kurdish region in northern Syria, trying to penetrate the territory, by land and launching air strikes, killing and injuring several civilians. This Turkish military operation has been launched out without any provocation or attack by the Kurds in this region."

 

The statement continued: "To end the war in Syria, the biggest threat is a new military intervention. The new incursion by the Government of Turkey against northern and eastern Syria is an extremely dangerous and incorrect step. The peoples of northern Syria, who sacrificed tens of thousands of people and resisted for their freedom in the fight against ISIS, now face violence and chaos once again. Not only the Kurds, but also the Arabs, Turkmen, Assyrians, Armenians and Yazidis who inhabit the region, are in great danger."

 

The statement added: "We endorse the call of the EU which declares that a sustainable solution to the Syrian conflict cannot be achieved militarily.  We also demand that Turkey cease unilateral military action and underline that renewed armed hostilities in the Northeast will further weaken the stability of the entire region, exacerbate the suffering of civilians and cause further displacement."

 

The statement finally asked "the UN to act to take responsibility for this situation that violates international law and poses an immediate risk to the people of Northern Syria."
