DİYARBAKIR - The sit-in action launched in Diyarbakır to reclaim the usurped municipality continues on day 11.
On August 19 the AKP regime seized the metropolitan municipalities of Diyarbakır, Van and Mardin by removing the democratically elected co-mayors and appointing trustees in their place.
In tandem with the operation against three municipalities, over 400 people were taken into custody as a result of house raids in dozens of cities. As protest demonstrations continue in three cities since August 19, police forces are systematically attacking the protesters, deputies and residents, and obstructing the journalists.
The sit-in action launched in Diyarbakır to reclaim the municipality continues on day 11. Masses have gathered on the Lise Avenue close to the municipality building today.
HDP deputies Feleknas Uca, Musa Farisoğulları, Saliha Aydeniz, Dersim Dağ, İmam Taşçıer and Erdal Yıldırım continue to take their place in the action which has been joined by the Platform of Financial Advisors today.
Demonstrators gather at 11:00 every day and make a press statement at 13:00. In addition to HDP MPs, representatives of political parties and civil society organizations coming from all around Turkey are also attending the press conference in support of the struggle to reclaim the usurped municipalities.
