The Judicial Reform Strategy covering the period of 2019-2023, which was announced with the vision of “a reassuring and accessible justice system”, was opened for discussion in recent weeks. However, Turkey's Grand National Assembly (Parliament) announced that the discussion was postponed until the fall due to the parliamentary recess.Fidan Ataselim, Secretary General of We Will Stop Femicide Platform (KCDP) who evaluated the judicial reform, saidthat they would be the followers of everything that includes violence against women and rape.

 

 

Ataselim stating that the thing that will protect the women will be the implementation of the İstanbul Convention, said: "If we are talking about a real reform, Turkey being one of the first signatories of the convention must take immediate action. Turkey used to brag about being one of the first signatories when the convention was first signed in 2011. Something very critical happened in 2011. Looking at the numbers in femicides between 2010 and 2019, you can see clearly that there is a significant decrease in numbers is 2011. That is the year the convention was signed. Ataselim pointing out the increasing numbers in femicides, said: "As the Istanbul Convention was implemented in 2011, there was a decline in female murders that year. However, there was an increase in female murders because the law no. 6284 and the Istanbul Convention were not implemented in the following years." Stating that the Istanbul Convention states that “You will prevent, protect, operate an effective prosecution process and develop policies in favor of women",  Ataselim said that by opening these articles, it is essential that the Istanbul Convention be implemented in its full form.
