ANKARA - IHD Co-chair Öztürk Türkdoğan who stated that hearing about the government's Judicial Reform Strategy was gratifying, said that they will see how it will be filled with the bill of laws they will submit in the parliament. Türkdoğan underlined that the Anti-Terror Law (TMK) should be regulated or even completely eliminated.
The judicial Reform Strategy prepared by the Ministry of Justice, was shared by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan from AKP with the public yesterday. The new strategy document has 9 main objectives. These are: "Protection and development of rights and freedoms", "Improving the independence, impartiality and transparency of the judiciary", "Increasing the quality and quantity of human resources", "Increasing performance and efficiency", "Ensuring the effective use of the right to defense", "Facilitating access to justice and facilitating and increasing the efficiency of the criminal justice system", "simplifying administrative proceedings and increasing the effectiveness of administrative proceedings" and "disseminating alternative dispute resolution methods".
There are some more regulations like increasing the law education to 5 years, enabling 'some' lawyers to be given green passports, postponement of sentence for the first crime of juveniles.
Türkdoğan who stated that hearing about a document containing the word 'reform' after the conflict period since 2015 is gratifying, said: "Turkey have shifted to a totally anti-democratic area after the presidency elections in 2017. The state of emergency (OHAL) applications, which have been implemented for two years have been very destructive. I think it is important for the government to recognize this, and announce that they will start a reform period. We will see with the bill of laws they'll introduce, how these reforms will be."
