 24 organizations in the city, including political parties and civil society organizations, called on to the government for taking immediate steps towards the solution regarding the hunger strikes initiated by DTK Co-chair Leyla Güven with the demand of terminating the isolation of PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan. HDP Van Deputy Murat Sarısaç also participated in the press statement made at the Van Branch building of the Confederation of Public Workers Unions (KESK).

 

TUAYDER President Önder Soğukbulak, who read the statement in the name of all participant foundations, said: "Unfortunately, we are the world's most experienced country on hunger strikes. We are worried about the  deaths we may encounter on the stage reached in hunger strikes in prisons, and in this rapidly changing agenda we must remind that there is nothing more important than human's life."

 

Soğukbulak said: "However, Abdullah Öcalan, imprisoned in İmralı Prison, has been unlawfully deprived of his rights guaranteed by the law. Mrs. Leyla Güven is on a hunger strike for 117 days today, to make the government abide by their own laws. So are 10 thousand more political prisoners who joined the hunger strike on March 1."

 

Soğukbulak who reminded the painful experiences in the history of Turkey, said: "We want to share with all the public that we have to assume more responsibility in order not to be a generation who witnessed the deaths silently with an injured the conscience " and lined up their demands and said they wish these demands are taken seriously by the public and the Ministry of Justice.
