İSTANBUL-  ÖHP Spokesperson Attorney İlknur Alcan who stated that because there is at least one person being sued in every family, the workload in courthouses have increased and therefore the right to defense is being prevented. Although the decisions Turkish Judiciary gives are questionable, the 'Justice Palaca' AKP government have built seems like a source of pride. The courthouse located in Kartal which is called the palace of justice is described as the biggest courthouse in the world, while the courthouse in Çağalayan is considered the biggest courthouse in Europe.

Platform of Lawyers for Freedom (ÖHP)  Spokesperson Attorney İlknur Alcan who evaluated the situation in the courthouses, said: "This clearly shows that this country lacks the culture of democracy. Alcan who underlined that people are being sued for such small reasons, said: " Thousands of people are being sued for social media shares. Noone can speak their minds anymore. There are investigations going on not only for today but for the past going back to 2011. That's why the courthouses are so busy."

Alcan who stated that not only the criminal courts but also the family and labour courts are busy. Because the economy is in such a bad place people are suing each other.

'  A HORRIBLE THING TO BE PROUD OF'

Alican said: "They are bragging about the worlds biggest courthouse but it actually is something horrible to be proud of. It means you have a lot of problems and they are huge problems.

'THE RIGHT TO FAIR TRIAL IS BEING VIOLATED'

Alican who stated that the fact that the hearings start later than they supposed to start and the workload brings along other problems, said the workload pressures the attorneys into limiting their time for defense and that is a violation of fair trial. Alican added: " Sometimes, a trial takes your whole day. It's not humane for us that's true, but that is not humane for them either. They get tired and can't do their jobs fairly. There are thousands of people in prisons. They all have trials. In this oppressive regime, everyone who breathes a word of criticism faces a trial. There is at least one person going trough a judicial process in every home. "
