AMED - İHD Amed Branch announced the "Report on Violations of Children's Rights". In the report, which states that 36 children's right to life violated in Kurdistan in one year, it şs stated that the lack of a solutions to the Kurdish issue is an obstacle to the protection of children's rights and a peaceful solution demanded.

Human Rights Association (İHD) Amed (Diyarbakır) Branch announced the "Report on Violations of Children's Rights" between Novembet 2023 and November 2024 at a meeting held at the association building.

'CHILDREN CANNOT GROW UP WITH THEIR OWN CULTURE'

Member of İHD Amed Branch Child Rights Commission Lawyer Berfin Elçi announced the report and reminded that Turkey has made reservations to ARticles 17, 18 and 30 of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, which it signed in 1990 and put into force in 1995.

'KURDISH ISSUE MUST BE RESOLVED PEACEFULLY'

Children are among the most vulnerable groups of people who suffer from the unresolved Kurdish issue said Berfin Elçi and added: "Explosive devices, armored vehicle crashes, deaths and injuries as a result of firing by law wnforcement children living in prisons with their mother prisoners are just a few consequences of this unresolved issue. In this respect, as human rights defenders, we reiterate our demand for a democratic and peaceful solution to the Kurdish issue, which stands as an obstacle to fundamental human rights and children's rights in particular."

PROBLEMS AFFECTING CHILDREN

Berfin Elçi stated that the earthquakes happened in Turkey last year, the lack of a solution to the Kurdish issue, the fact that many children are in prison with their mothers, inadequate health facilities, the disregard of children's lives by criminal organizations such as the 'Yenidoğan Gang', and the failures in judicial processes in crimes against children make the judicial system question the violations of children's rights to life and negatively affect the psychology of children. Berfin Elçi underlined that the processes regarding the fate of missing children are not carried out at an adequate level and said that children's right to education in their mother language and participation in social life continues to be consistently ignored.

VIOLATIONS

Sharing the data of their report, Befin Elçi stated that 4 children lost their lives and 16 children were injured in various ways as a result of official error/negligence in Kurdistan cities. Elçi stated that one of these 4 children who lost their lives was hit by a vehicle driven by law enforcement officers. Berfin Elçi stated that 1 child lost his/her life and 1 child was seriously wounded due to the explosion of mines and explosives left in conflict zones.

Berfin Elçi stated that 18 children died in suspicious circumstances in Kurdistan, at least 1 child attempted suicide, at least 9 children lost their lives and 1 child was injured due to domestic violence in Kurdistan and at least 5 children were subjected to sexual abuse within the family.
