DRAGGED INTO PROSTITUTION AT THE AGE OF 11
It was learned that the child, whose parents live separately, was dragged into drugs and prostitution at the age of 11.
Social Worker Belgin Işık drew attention to the extent of social decay. Stating that the policy of impunity has increased the cases of assault, abuse, harassment and rape against children, Işık said: “These poisonous practices, which were carried out step by step by the government and its institutions and spread to the society, unfortunately poisoned the society and paved the way for an enormous decay. At this point, we are faced with cases of children being murdered, kidnapped and not found, and being treated in hospitals with severe injuries. The whole society has to do its part in solving this destructive problem and fight to mobilize the relevant institutions and organizations.”
'SOCIAL VALUES ARE BEING ERODED'
Sociologist Taner Taş said that social decay is manifested not only by the actions of the perpetrators but also by society's reaction to crimes. Taş continued as follows: “Social degeneration, deterioration and decay refers to situations where the values and norms of a society are rapidly eroded and the sense of justice and ethics are seriously damaged. Sexual abuse reveals one of the most severe forms of this deterioration. The fact that criminals do not receive sufficiently deterrent punishments or the slow functioning of the justice system contributes to the deepening of this decay. This can lead to individuals who commit crimes continuing to be a part of society rather than being socially ostracized, normalizing and even spreading crime. In a society where the safety of children cannot be ensured, trust and hope for the future is damaged. The erosion of social values depends not only on the capacity of specific individuals to commit crimes, but also on the reactions of society as a whole to such incidents. The moral fabric of a society is determined by its reflexes to crime. This incident shows how deep social decay can go. The solution requires stronger justice systems, effective education programs and strong policies to protect children at all levels of society.”
