ÊLIH - Prisoner Mazlum Ari's release was extended by 3 months on the grounds of a disciplinary penalty he was given for objecting to strip searches.
Mazlum Ari, who is currently imprisoned in Tekirdağ Type F Closed Prison No. 2, was arrested for “being a member of an illegal organization” after being detained during a house raid in Êlih (Batman) in 2016. Ari was sentenced to 10 years in prison. On May 17, 2024, Ari was subjected to strip search while being transferred to Tekirdağ Type F Prison No. 2.
Ari was subjected to an investigation and was given a disciplinary penalty on September 2. Ari completed his sentence on September 10. However, his release was extended by 3 months on the grounds of the disciplinary punishment.
FAMILY'S REACTION
Father Mehmet Salih Ari stated that his son's release was postponed because he objected to the strip search while waiting for his release on September 10 and said: “My son was sentenced to 10 years for the case he was tried. After completing 8 years, while we were waiting for his release on September 10, we learned that his release was postponed for 3 months. Mazlum's release was postponed because he objected to the strip search. Although strip search is a crime, he was punished for opposing it. Arbitrary decisions are preventing releases.”
Stating that the unlawfulness applied to his son continues due to strip search, Ari said that the practices in prisons are inhumane and must end.
