ANKARA - The family of prisoner Abdulkadir Bozkurt, who says he was beaten in prison, has filed a complaint against the guards.
Abdulkadir Bozkurt, a prisoner in Tekirdağ Type F Closed High Security Prison No. 2, called his family on August 15 to say that he had been threatened with death and beaten in front of cameras by the prison director, chief warder and psychologist.
Abdulkadir Bozkurt's brother Serdal Bozkurt filed a complaint to the General Directorate of Prisons and Detention Houses of the Ministry of Justice about the threats and beatings.
Bozkurt came to Ankara and went to the General Directorate of Prisons and Detention Houses of the Ministry of Justice and requested to meet with the director. However, officials at the directorate prevented the meeting, stating that an appointment was required for the meeting.
FILED A COMPLAINT
Upon this, Bozkurt filed a complaint to the directorate about the guards who threatened his brother with death and beat him. In his complaint, brother Bozkurt demanded that the guards be identified and a judicial and criminal investigation be opened against them. Bozkurt also asked for his brother to be transferred to another prison in Kurdistan.
Bozkurt said that he wanted to meet with the Ministry of Justice and that he would contact the Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) to pave the way for the meeting.
