ANKARA - EMEP Dîlok Deputy Sevda Karaca has applied to the Ministry of Justice for the release of seriously ill prisoner Mehmet Güvel.
Labor Party (EMEP) Dîlok (Antep) Deputy Sevda Karaca has applied to the Ministry of Justice for the release of seriously ill prisoner Mehmet Güvel, who is being held in Buca High Security Prison. In the petition, it was stated that Güvel is 80 percent disabled, has Wernicke Korsakof (WK) and prostate cancer, and that what he is going through is a violation of human rights.
In the petition, it was stated that Güvel, who has been imprisoned for about 6 months, stated in his letter that he could not even fulfill his daily needs and that the Ministry of Justice and the Forensic Medicine Institution (ATK) issued reports stating that he "cannot stay in prison".
VIOLATION OF THE RIGHT TO LIFE
The petition stated the following: "However, both the physical conditions of the Type Y prisons and the experiences of Mehmet Güvel, as reported in the letters, constitute gross violations of human rights. Because the only consequence of keeping a 78-year-old citizen with Wernicke's Korsakof disease, prostate cancer and 78 years of age in prison, and not implementing the decision that he cannot stay in prison, is the death of Mehmet Güvel. For this reason, I would like to submit for your information to ensure the release and treatment of the citizen as soon as possible."
