On September 6, 81 people, including activists, teachers and journalists, who were arrested in the protests regarding the antidemocratic practices of the KDP in the Federated Kurdistan Region, started a hunger strike on September 6, demanding a fair trial. Umîd Barûşkî and Bedel Berwarî, who were arrested on charges of spying and sabotage started a hunger strike after the trial, which was held on September 6.

 

Families of imprisoned activists also started support actions in front of Hewlêr Public Security Prison against the unlawfulness. Making a statement on the subject, the Christian Peacemakers Team (CPT) called for the release of the detainees, stating that a fair trial should be held.

 

In a message sent by Şêrwan Şêrwanî, one of the imprisoned activists who went on hunger strike, to the Christian Peacemakers Team (CPT), Şêrwanî  stated that almost all of the 81 prisoners went on a hunger strike against the unlawfulness and torture, and that some prisoners did not even drink water. Stating that they haven't still got to the court despite 1 year has passed, Şêrwanî said that they are concerned for the lives of the sick prisoners among them."
