İSTANBUL - HDP Honorary Chair Ertuğrul Kürkçü who told that the 'Call for Peace Declaration' is not  a call to the government but a call to the society, said: "'Third way' is the base of operations for historical change."

The 'One state, one nation, one flag, one religion' motto Turkey followed since the establishment of Turkey, has brought with it incomprehensible problems so far. The deadlock caused by the assimilation policy against the Kurds, which has been going on for a century, is the source of many problems experienced today. While the war policies pursued by the governments deepen the deadlock in the Kurdish issue, those who oppose the war continued to be targeted.

Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) shed light on the solution of the problems with the strategy and attitude document announced on June 1, despite all the pressure and attacks against the party. The HDP organized many demos and held a series of meetings within the scope of the 3-month "Democratic Struggle Program" with the sub-headings "Together for a democratic solution to the Kurdish problem" and "Together to stop wars" against the Kurdish problem and war policies. The HDP issued a "Call for Peace Declaration" on the eve of September 1, World Peace Day in the light of the views, suggestions and criticisms that emerged throughout the program at the point of solving the Kurdish problem, calling on all democratic groups to fight together.

We spoke to the HDP Honorary Co-Chair Ertuğrul Kürkçü about the attitude document of the HDP and the 'Third way'.

Stating that one the two parties dominating two ends of the political polarization wants to go back to single party regime while the other wants to go back to Ottoman Empire in post modern conditions, HDP Honorary Co-Chair Ertuğrul Kürkçü said: "They insist on their course as they think that the political climate in the world allows this and that this climate is suitable for the revival of authoritarianism, nationalism and the rebirth of empires. For this reason, HDP's "Third Way" effort gains an enormous importance. The absolute domination of any of these two poles means the destruction of all gains to date. That's why the 'Third way' is the the base of operations for historical change."

Stating that a democratic alliance is needed in terms of periodic tactics, especially in terms of revealing the solution partners mentioned above, Kürkçü said: "Establishing a new democratic regime alliance against the current ruling bloc is one of the tasks of the "Third Way" and without it there can be no such alliance. For this reason, both the realization of the historical claim of the "Third Way" and the formation of a democratic alliance on the way to this are two indispensable elements. In that regard, it is at utmost importance that HDP allies with the forces of democracy around the 'Third way' in order to strengthen the struggle. Of course, not only should we take a step towards them, they should also take a step towards us. This is very important. All of the operations against HDP lately were steps taken to prevent this union. I mean the regime seems to have understood better the needs of the process than the opposition in that regard.  But the Third Way dynamics embodied in the HDP create such a solid and fertile ground that a new founding wave comes after every destructive move. In this respect, it is imperative that we continue this construction without getting pessimistic."

Speaking about the solution of the crisis in the Kurdish problem and how it is bound to be resolved by the Third way, Kürkçü said: "Yes, the solution is the third way. Because the inclusion of the Kurds to the new society as an equal, right and as constituent elements and for them to built the new society with other social and democratic groups can only be realized with the thrid way.  No one is going to maintain your rights and historical claims for you. At the moment, the stage that the freedom struggle of the Kurds has reached is limited in the North and at a prevalence and maturity that cannot be satisfied at the level of temporary personal rights. It takes a re-establishment to find its counterpart. Therefore, the narrative of emancipation through the “democratization of the presidential regime” by turning into the old shell may be a science fiction story for Kurds, but it cannot be a historical program."
