VAN - Brother of Servet Turgut who was thrown from a helicopter, Naif Turgut protested the detention of the journalist who brought the killing of his brother to the agenda and said: "They tried to uncover the injustices done to us. They tried to be our voices."

Our reporters Adnan Bilen and Cemil Uğur, Jinnews reporter Şehriban Abi, journalist Nazan Sala and former newspaper distributor Şükran Erdem were detained in the raid that took place this morning against our agency's Van office.

Journalists who broke the story of two men thrown from a helicopter and proving it with documents are being held at the Provincial Security Directorate.

'THEY DID THEIR JOBS'

Naif Turgut, brother of Servet Turgut, who died in the intensive care unit 20 days after being thrown from the helicopter, reacted to the arrest of the journalists who brought the incident to the agenda. Noting that the journalist Uğur and other journalists have been with them since the first day of the incident, Turgut said: "Cemil asked us what happened. He tried to uncover the injustices done to us. Cemil and the other journalists were at the hospital with us everyday from day one. These kind of things shouldn't be done to journalists. Journalists should be free. They can not be prevented from informing the public. Cemil was with us for humanity. He was with us to inform the people what happened to us. Cemil didn't hurt us." 

'THEY TRIED TO BE OUR VOICE'

Underlining that the journalists must be released as soon as possible, Turgut said: "We are in debt with these journalists for making us be heard. Cemil asked me why my brother was tortured. Now we are asking the same to the authorities, why was he detained, what was his crime? Cemil and his friends are innocent. They just wanted to unvocer the injustice we suffered. What has been done to them is unfair. They did not allow anyone to participate in my brother's wake, nor did they allow the journalists to record it. These people have no fault. They tried to be our voice."
