ISTANBUL - 27th Musa Anter and Free Press Martyrs Journalism Awards have been announced. Mezopotamya Agency was deemed worthy of 3 awards in the "Turkish", "Kurdish" and "Woman" news categories.
The 27th Musa Anter and Free Press Martyrs Journalism Awards organized by Yeni Yaşam Newspaper have been announced. The awards were given in five different categories: "Turkish News", "Kurdish News", "Photography (news photo)", "Cartoon" and "Women's Journalism" in memory of Gurbetelli Ersöz.
TURKISH NEWS AWARD: ERDOĞAN ALAYUMAT
Our agency's reporter Erdoğan Alayumat was awarded in the "Turkish News" category with his article titled "261 bodies buried under the pavement". Alayumat exposed that the bodies extracted from Bitlis Garzan Cemetery were buried under the sidewalk in Kilyos Cemetery in Istanbul.
TURKISH NEWS JURY SPECIAL AWARD: ERCÜMENT AKDENİZ
The "Turkish News Award Jury Special Award" was given to journalist Ercüment Akdeniz with his article titled "Refugees carried to death with the code 'passengers'. Akdeniz had written the news that exposed the details of the disaster that caused dozens of refugees' deaths as their boat in Lake Van sank.
AWARD FOR THE KURDISH NEWS WAS SHARED BY TWO JOURNALISTS
Two news articles were awarded in the "Kurdish News" category. The news article of Fahrettin Kılıç and Ayşe Sürme, one of the reporters of our agency, "PTT'ê ji malbatê re şandin" (The body was sent to the family with mail in a box after 3 years) and the news article of "Me xwe gihaşt nameya Î.E" (Our agency discovered the letter of İ.E) by Jinnews reporter Medya Üren.
GURBETELLİ ERSÖZ WOMEN'S NEWS AWARD: GIVEN TO SİBEL YÜKLER
The award in the category of "Gurbetelli Ersöz Women's Journalism" was given to Sibel Yükler from Gazete Karınca with the news titled "Police almost accused Emine Bulut".
WOMEN'S NEWS JURY'S SPECIAL AWARD: ARJİN DİLEK ÖNCEL
For the "Women's Journalism Special Jury Prize", our agency's reporter Arjin Dilek Öncel's news titled "Suspicious death of a mother who witnessed the rape her daughter" was awarded the Jury's Special Award.
PHOTOGRAPHY AWARD: KURAY AND ERDOĞAN
The award given in the category of "Photography" was shared between two journalists. The photo of journalist Zeynep Kuray, used in the article called 'Blockade', taken while HDP MPs surrounded by the police was one of them while the other was given to Fatoş Erdoğan for the photograph taken during Ebru Timtik's funeral.
JURY'S SPECIAL AWARD FOR PHOTOGRAPHY: SEDA TAŞKIN
"Jury Special Award" was given to Seda Taşkın's "Hasankeyf" photo. It was deemed worthy of a special prize in terms of ironically reflecting the destruction of Hasankeyf.
CARTOON AWARD: BEŞİR GEROĞLU
The first prize in the "Cartoon" category was given to Beşir Geroğlu, while the "Jury Special Award in the Cartoon" was awarded to Kıymet Güven.
