'Leyla Güven is the symbol of women's freedom struggle' 2020-06-07 14:18:28 İSTANBUL - HDP Istanbul Deputy Dilşat Canbaz, who said that the struggle of women was targeted by the imprisonment and the removal of MP status of DTK Co-chair Leyla Guven, stated that "Leyla Guven is the symbol of women's freedom struggle. They say that 'we are going to break that will', but she never surrendered, never kneeled in fron of them and she continues to struggle today just like yesterday".   Reactions continue to raise following the imprisonment of HDP’s Leyla Güven and Musa Farisoğulları as their MP status, together with CHP's Enis Berberoğlu were dropped. Drawing attention to the unlawfullness, HDP İstanbul MP Dilşat Canbaz called for joint struggle.   LEYLA IS THE SYMBOL OF WOMEN'S STRUGGLE    Stating that fascism and the pathriarcal system applies policies especially targeting the women, Canbaz emphasized that it is the block of AKP-MHP, who attacks the bodies and the politics women. "Leyla Güven is the espression of Kurdish women movement. She is the symbol of women's struggle. She laid her body down to hunger for the isolation against Mr. Abdullah Öcalan. This was a statement of will. This was not just a symbol for Kurdistan, but for the humanity all over the globe. They do not evaluate her as one person and they say 'we are going to break that will'. However, Leyla is the voice of women's struggle and an example for all of us. When she raised her hand with the sign of victory, what she has been telling is the answer to fascism; she never surrendered, never kneeled in front of them and she continues to struggle today just like yesterday", said Canbaz.   'CHP MUST BE BRAVE'   Canbaz also made a call for CHP and invited CHP to act more breavely: "We are still telling this, Enis Berberoğlu might be from another line of politics, but his MP status was stripped off alsu unlawfully. We should not hesitate to say this outloud. This is the time to act bravely. CHP Chair Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu only talks about Enis Berberoğlu, just when there are two other MP's in question and those two have been paying a price over long years. I expect CHP to be more brave".   Emphasizing the actuality of fascism, Canbaz told, "This won't change if each goes and says 'Nothing would happen to me', but will only change with a joint struggle. In order to give a response to fascism, we must stand all together. Starting from CHP to all other democracy block, society must be on the streets, because we have nothing to lose".   MA / Ayşe Sürme
