
Prison sentence decision against Selma Irmak approved

	DİYARBAKIR - &nbsp;The Supreme Court upheld the 7-year and 6-month prison sentence given to Selma Irmak, who was the Co-Chair of DTK, arguing that the DTK was identical with KCK.

	&nbsp;

	The Supreme Court made a second decision after the Aysel Tuğluk decision regarding the legal status of the Democratic Society Congress (DTK). The 16th Chamber of the Supreme Court of Appeals found the decision about Selma Irmak, who was sentenced to 7 years and 6 months in prison on charges of “membership of an illegal organization” for being the Co-Chair of Democratic Society Congress (DTK) between 2015- 2016 and for the speeches she made and demonstrations she attended during that time, appropriate.

	The Supreme Court also upheld one year and 18 months' imprisonment given to Irmak for'propagandizing an illegal organization' within the scope of the same file.

	&nbsp;

	With the approval of the cases by the Court of Appeals, both cases are sent to the Supreme Court. The supreme court evaluating the objections of Irmak's lawyers Reyhan Yalçındağ and Erhan Ürküt, upheld the decision of the local court and approved the decision.

	&nbsp;

	The first decision of the Supreme Court regarding DTK was about former DTK Co-Chair Aysel Tuğluk. The 16th Chamber of the Supreme Court of Appeals upheld the 10-year prison sentence given to Tuğluk, who is being held in Kocaeli F-Type Prison, on 2 December 2019.

	WHAT WILL HAPPEN?

	&nbsp;

	If the Constitutional Court does not find a violation in the individual application made by the lawyers, the sentence imposed will be finalized, and the DTK will be accepted by a judicial decision as an illegal entity. With the adoption of the DTK being an illegal organization, a step will be taken to initiate a judicial investigation against the member and the institutions and organizations that have a relationship with the DTK.
