Soma defendants to be released with the new law on execution 2020-04-27 13:17:07   MANİSA - One of the lawyers of the Soma case, Seçil Ege Değerli, stated that the detained defendants of Some will be abated and released earlier.   The new law on execution reflects to the high profile public cases too. Soma case where the killing of 301 mine workers is being tried is one of them. In the case, in which 301 mine workers were killed due to negligence on May 13, 2014, İzmir Regional Court of Justice recently released the mine operator Can Gürkan and the remaining 4 defendants were sentenced for the crime of 'causing death by negligence'. With the new law on execution, the early release of the 4 defendants is now on the table.   6 YEARS REMISSION   Seçil Ege Değerli, stating that the defendants Soma Coal Enterprises General Manager Ramazan Doğru and Technical Manager İsmail Adalı would be released on probation in 2028, will be released in September 2022 and the Operating Manager Akın Çelik and the Technical Supervisor Mining Engineer Ertan Ersoy will be released this September.    Reminding that Can Gürkan was granted a license for mining operations, Değerli said: "It is possible for these people to operate even a mining facility at the moment. The ban in this direction has also been lifted. The way for new disasters have been paved."   Değerli said: "Today, journalists, our lawyer friends like Selçuk Kozağaçlı and those who defend the freedom of expression is in prison.
