Maxmur call to UN 2020-04-22 11:31:47   NEWS CENTER - TJA pointed out that the attacks on the camp should be considered within the scope of de-Kurdification policy of the Turkish state.   The Free Women’s Movement (TJA) called on the United Nations to comply with its own agreement and take action against the embargo and attacks on Maxmur refugee camp.   In a written statement published on Tuesday, TJA recalled that the Maxmur refugee camp in southern Kurdistan, northern Iraq was built by the United Nations (UN) in 1998 and criticized the UN’s silence on the embargo and attacks against the camp.   TJA pointed out that the attacks on the camp should be considered within the scope of de-Kurdification policy of the Turkish state, calling on the UN to not be a party to this genocidal campaign and to comply with its own agreement for the protection of the camp.   TJA also criticised the law of execution recently passed by the AKP-MHP government as the criminals who have been released with the amnesty have already started to commit repeated offences. TJA defined the legalization of an anti-democratic act as a “coup” against the society and democracy in Turkey.   Pointing to the increasing violence against women in times of pandemic, TJA remarked that homes, which should have been a shelter for protection against Covid-19, have instead become death cellars for women.
