Decision of arrest for 220 'prisoners' in prison riot investigation 2020-04-13 12:46:13 BATMAN - In the investigation launched for the riot in Batman Type M Prison, a decision of arrest was made for the 220 prisoners involved for 'damaging public property', 'Rebellion of prisoners and convicts', 'resisting to prevent performing duty'. The prisoners and convicts in Batman Prison have started a riot demanding to be included in the new law proposal on execution on April 4. As a result of the negotiation between the atuhorities and the prisoners, the riot has endedn and 439 prisoners were sent to Diyarbakır Type T Prison while being beaten on the way. Batman Chief Public Prosecutor's Office started an investigation against the prisoners and convicts. While the number of the prisoners investigated is unknown, 220 prisoners were deposed via SEGBİS (Video conference system). In the investigation carried out by the prosecutor's office, a confidentiality decision was also issued.   While the prisoners and convicts stated that they did not participate in the rebellion and did not harm public property in prison, the prosecutor's office requested arrests of 220 prisoners and convicts so far. An arrest warrant was issued for 220 prisoners and convicts who were referred to Batman 1st Criminal Court of Peace on grounds of "harming public property, rebellion of convicts or prisoners, resisting officers to prevent performing duty".
