Arzu Çerkezoğlu acquitted 2020-03-09 14:07:12 SAKARYA - DİSK Chair Arzu Çerkezoğlu who was sued because of a speech she made at the 'Where's Turkey going' panel was acquitted of all charges.   Confederation of Progressive Trade Unions (DİSK) Chair Arzu Çerkezoğlu was acquitted of the charges "referring people to hatred and hostility" and "insulting the president" for her speech at a panel she attended 3 years ago in Sapanca. Çerkezoğlu, who made her defense at the final hearing in the Sapanca Criminal Court of First Instance, stated that ideas are not discussed in court in democratic countries. Stating that the courts should guarantee freedom of expression, Çerkezoğlu said: "I said that the system should change. While our country is moving away from democracy. Political governments should always be open to criticism."   Following the defense of her lawyers, Çerkezoğlu was acquitted of all charges.
