Psychologist Turkmen: Presence of suicide is a sign of system disorder 2020-02-19 15:00:35 ANKARA - Psychologist Sevgi Türkmen pointed out that the places selected in recent suicides are public space and said, “The presence of someone who committed suicide is a sign of system disorder and this disturbs the elite." In addition to political and social pressures, harsh economic conditions and unemployment increase social problems. Recently, suicide cases have been repeated due to livelihood difficulties. Every day, a new suicide incident is added to the events that take place in public space such as the governorship, district governorship, municipality or workplaces. According to the data of Turkey Statistical Institute (TÜİK), 3 thousand 161 people committed suicide in 2018. Official data means that an average of 9 people die every day.    It is almost impossible to give a single explanation for suicide actions that are at the junction of biological, psychological and social factors. Psychologist Sevgi Türkmen evaluated the causes of drifting to suicide and the intensification of suicide patterns to the Mezopotamya Agency (MA).   ECONOMIC CONDITIONS MUST BE CHECKED FOR THE CAUSES   Türkmen stated, "For the causes of all suicides one should first check the economic conditions, just as the person who committed suicide points out. Almost all those who have committed suicide in the recent period have ended their lives by leaving the reason for loving their death. Unfortunately, they feel that they can only be regarded and seen with their death."   'PEOPLE FORGET THINGS SO SOON'   Reminding Adem Yarıcı, who has committed suicide in front ot Hatay Municipality as he yells 'My kids are hungry', Türkmen continued her statements as follows: "People experience such a great economic stress that they come to the point of putting themselves on fire because their kids are hungry. This is such a tragedie, but these incident are erased so quickly from people's memory.  That is to say, the causes of recent suicides is firstly the economical conditions, but it does not remain with that. In addition to this economical factors, there is this feeling of loneliness and desperation that breaks peoples' lives into pieces, because to social and political polarization makes people unable to reach the sources."   'THEY WANT TO BE SEEN VIA THEIR DEATH'   Pointing out to the that the recent suicides have all been committed in public space, Türkmen indicates that there is a dense rage and desperation felt so much so that we can think of this as a rage discharge against the public institutions. Türkmen continues: "Since they see themselves powerless, and of course they are made feel this way, compared to institutions and the authorities, a need to be seen and taken attention begins to emerge. We can see that the suicides are mostly committed in public space, especially work places, municipalities, district governorships as such, as all of these are the places, which are publicly seen."   'AN EFFORT NOT TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY'   Mentioning the media approaches regarding the news of suicide, Türkmen indicates: "We can not predicate the increase on suicide incidents on the news of the suicide. These are a perception management, that is the effort of the state and the institutions not to take responbility. Lynch attempts in social media can also be considered in this sense. These are the lynch of the elites. If you are elite, the system is errorless and the presence of suicide is a sign of system disorder, which disturbs the elite. That is why they act so offensive. This can be called as a political and economical lynch."   MA/ Emrullah Acar
