Suruç Families demanding justice for 53 weeks 2019-12-21 12:44:45 İSTANBUL - The Suruç Families Initiative met for the 53rd month since the Suruç Massacre (20 July 2015) and drew attention to the ongoing case. The families said that they would not allow a cover up of the massacre.   Like the 20th of every month, this week the Suruç Families Initiative held a commemoration of the victims of the massacre in Halitağa Street in Kadıköy.   The families who came together for the 53rd month since the massacre carried photographs of the victims who lost their lives. Families chanted slogans demanding justice and the truth for the 33 people killed and 104 wounded in a ISIS bomb attack   In the statement read by Feti Aydın, who lost his son Çağdaş in the Suruç Massacre drew attention to the fact that there are "those who want to cover up the massacre."   Aydın reminded that the young people killed in Suruç "were carrying medicines, books and toys in the bags. Their purpose was to extend the hand of brotherhood to the people who had to migrate there because of the war in Kobane and to alleviate their pain to some extent. However, those who did not want to establish this bridge of brotherhood tried to prevent this with the bloody massacre they organized."     BACKGROUND   Following the appeal by the Federation of Socialist Youth Associations (SGDF), 300 young people had gathered at the Amara Cultural Center to hold a press conference prior to their departure for Kobanê.   The planned trip to Kobanê was meant to be an act of solidarity. The young people wanted to bring toys and humanitarian aid to the city destroyed by the ISIS.   Then Abdurrahman Alagöz blew himself up ending the life of 33 people and wounding a further 104.
