A card and a book campaign in solidarity with journalist Aykol 2019-09-12 12:27:14   ANKARA - Hüseyin Aykol, Editor-in-Chief of the closed Özgür Gündem newspaper, celebrates his 64th birthday in prison on 15 September.A campaign was launched in solidarity with Aykol.   Hüseyin Aykol, the Co-editor-in-chief of the closed Özgür Gündem newspaper, celebrates his 64th birthday (15 September) in prison. A book and a card campaign was initiated by his colleagues and friends in order to keep Aykol company at his new age.   Aykol is being held in Sincan No. 2 F Type Closed Prison since 11 July 2019.       Aykol, who has a history of journalism for nearly 40 years, has spent more than 30 years as an editor, columnist and editor-in-chief in the Kurdish press.   Aykol is the only journalist to systematically publicize the violations of rights in prison in his ”Inside” column.   WARNINGS FOR BOOKS AND CARD SENDERS   Those who will send books and cards to prisons for the first time have some details to be aware of.   * The book to be sent must be labelled. Make sure that no notes are written in the book and that no drawings or markings are made.   * Book senders must write a seperate card  if they want to transmit message to Aykol.   * Since there is a limitation of the book in prisons, it is important to emphasize that the book is a birthday present.    * The book and the card should be mailed at the same time.   PRISON ADDRESS   Aykol's prison address is as follows: "Sincan 2 Nolu F Tipi Kapalı Cezaevi C4-78 Sincan-ANKARA Hüseyin Aykol"      WHAT IS AYKOL CHARGED WITH?   Aykol was sentenced to 3 years and 9 months of imprisonment because of the “On-Duty Editor-in-Chief” campaign launched in solidarity with Özgür Gündem Newspaper.    Aykol, who refused to go abroad, was detained at his home on 11 July 2019 and got arrested.   There are 63 lawsuits against Aykol, and some of the cases are pending before the appeal court.
