Kanar: Heavy penalty courts acts as the inquisition 2019-08-06 12:28:25   İSTANBUL - Attorney Ercan Kanar, stating that the Kurdish and leftist political prisoners not being released despite the decision of ECHR and the Supreme Court gave about the sentences State Security Court gave, said: "Heavy Penalty Courts are acting like the Inqusition. We should not remain silent."     The European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) ruled that the people must stand trial again because there were Military Judges in the State Security Court (DGM).Following this decision, the Constitutional Court (AYM) made a similar decision which lead to a possibility of release for thousands of prisoners. However, while hundreds of prisoners of Hizbullah case were being released, Kurdish and leftist prisoners not being released lead to discussions. Commenting on this being applying double standards, Attorney Ercan Kanar said: “The High Criminal Courts are practicing an inquisition court against left opponents and Kurds.We should not remain unresponsive to this."   Stating that the Istanbul Bar Association should raise their voices against the application of double standards in the judiciary, Kanar said: "We stated that the judiciary should bring a criticism to this double standard. Not only the Istanbul Bar Association but all law offices should raise their voices against this double standard." Noting that the High Criminal Courts violated the AYM's equality principle against Kurds and left opponents Kanar said: “The High Criminal Courts act as an Inquisition Court against the left opponents and Kurds. We should not remain unresponsive to this.”     Kanar stating that these double standards would damage the sense of justice in the society, said launched a campaign against these practices under the roof of Humans' Rights Association (İHD).
