Students in ODTU under police blocade 2019-07-08 09:25:06 ANKARA - The students who have been in a watch against the KYK Dormitory for 55 days have been blocaded by the police.    Middle East Technical University (METU) students have been resisting against the KYK Dormitory for 55 days under the name of Kavaklık Initiative. Students who have been waiting a watch in the Kavaklık area with their tents for 55 days to protect the forest area that have been allocated to the Credit and Dormitory Institution (KYK) for 49 years have been blockaded by the police since early this morning.     The students were asked to pack their belongings and tents and leave the area by the police. While assistants to rector were intructed by the rector to  persuade the students to leave, the People's Democratic Party (HDP) MP's and academicians are prevented by the police from entering the area.   While students and academics protest by shouting the slogan “Rector resign”, police continue to build the barricade. Students and police continue to wait.   On the other hand, 3 days ago, METU Rector Verşan Kök, told to the public that he wanted the grounds to be evacuated and that he will not be able to prevent the intervention of the police.
