Governor in Van banned Workers' Day celebration 2019-04-30 15:21:12 VAN - The Governor of Van banned the 1 May meeting reiterating the AKP justification for banning events, social peace.    Trade unions, associations and political parties were planning to celebrate the May Day Workers' and Laborers' Day in the Peace Park Musa Anter Barış Parkı but Van Governor Office banned the celebration.    In his statement, the governor used concepts such as ‘left terrorist organisations’ and said that “left terrorist organizations will try to use the open-air events and the concentration of people on 1 May to stir mass protests and disturbances.”   The governorship decided to go further and prohibit all kinds of demonstrations and activities such as marches, meetings, press conferences, sit-ins, stands and other similar events to be held within the territorial boundaries for 10 days, from 29 April to 8 May.   The governor also added that “unrest has been sought since the 31 March local elections results have been disclosed” and added that “such events and demonstrations could be affecting social peace.”
