'We are counting minutes, not hours' 2019-04-18 11:23:20 URFA- İHD Prisons Commission Member Attorney Mustafa Vefa who monitors Urfa Prisons where 224 prisoners are on hunger strike, said: "This hunger strike action has gone so far. We are counting not days, not hours but minutes now. We can recieve death news any minute."   There are 208 prisoners in Urfa No 1 and No 2 and Siverek Type T prisons on hunger strike since March 1, plus 16 prisoners who joined the hunger strike action on January 5 and 6.   Humans' Rights Association (İHD) Prison Commission member Attorney Mustafa Vefa who gave information about the hunger strikes, stated that every prisoner in Urfa Prisons are beyond critical threshold now. Vefa said: "According to the data we have, there are 224 prisoners and convicts in Urfa prisons who are on hunger strike."   Vefa who drew attention to the hunger strikers who joined the action on January 5 and 6, said they are beyond critical threshold and detoriorating by the minute.   Vefa who briefed about the prisoners said they are having difficulty standing up, experiencing memory loss, vision loss, dehydration and they are vomiting all the time. Vefa who stated that the prisoners in Urfa are not being given enough vitamins, said they need to give Bemix Complex, because B1 can not be found in Turkey, and that the prison administration gives one vitamin per day when they need 2.   Vefa said: " This is the first time in the history of Turkey a hunger strike action is so extensive. This hunger strike action has gone so far. We are counting not days, not hours but minutes now. We can recieve death news any minute. We want the authorities to take immediate action before anyone else dies."
