DGD: Hunger strike is not suicide it is a demand for right 2019-04-16 16:34:47 İSTANBUL- DGD Platform stated that the hunger strike action against the isolation on PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan is not attempted suicide, but a demand for rights, and demanded a solution to be found. East and South East Associations Platform (DGD) and some non-governmental organizations held a press conference in İstanbul Human's Rights Association regarding the hunger strikes. Speaking at the meeting, DGD Platform President Abdurrahman Daş reminded that thousands of detainees and convicts have joined the hunger strike DTK CO-chair Leyla Güven initiated. Daş who also reminded that 7 people have ended their lives in the process, said: "The hunger strike against isolation is a demand for rights and not attempted suicide. These hunger strikes ending with deaths  will be a wound in those who have a conscience. Data from the follow-up of hunger strikes, monitoring committees and independent lawyers show that many prisoners' lives are at a critical threshold. The most important risk factor in hunger strikes are that they are in a limited environment with limited conditions."     Daş drawing attention to the critical stage the hunger strikers have reached, said: "The prison doors must be opened to independent health committes at once. The prisons are currently not in the capacity of monitoring thousands of hunger strikers. The monitoring of independent committees is of vital importance for the transparent, impartial, transparent treatment of hunger strikes. It is not difficult for the government to resolve hunger strikes initiated with a legal request. There is no need for a new legal regulation, the implementation of the basic human rights laws specified in the Constitution is sufficient by itself.   ’Contact the solution‘   Underlining that nothing is more sacred than life, Daş underlined the desire of the hunger strike to show the necessary humanitarian sensitivity and to reach a solution through democratic means before the possible deaths and irreversible disabilities occur. Abdurrahman Daş emphasized that the government in its current power has the power remove the isolation and to end the hunger strikes by acting under international and domestic laws.
