Court issues forced appearance warrant for Leyla Guven

	DİYARBAKIR- Diyarbakir Heavy Penal Court No.5 issued a forced appearance warrant for Leyla Güven, who has been on a hunger strike for 140 days.

	 

	A delegated hearing was held in the Diyarbakir Heavy penal Court No.5 for the case the DTK Co-chair and Hakkari MP Leyla Güven is on trial for “membership to a terrorist organization” in  Sanliurfa Heavy Penal Court No.6, citing that she did not attend the previous hearing to give her deposition.

	 

	Güven did not attend the delegated hearing where Öcalan’s siblings Mehmet and Fatma Öcalan are also facing the same charges because she has been on a hunger strike for 140 days. Her attorney Serdar Celebi was present in the hearing.

	 

	ATTORNEY ÇELEBİ: THERE IS A FATAL RISK

	 

	In the hearing, Leyla Güven’s attorney Serdar Çelebi said: “My client is a member of the parliament who has been on a hunger strike for 140 days. She has serious health issues and is in no position to give a deposition. If she is brought to court by force by the police, she will be in fatal risk. Under these circumstances, my client has no opportunity to submit a defense. As such, we demand that the case be dismissed and that the court refrain from issuing a forced appearance warrant.”

	 

	The court ruled to issue a warrant for law enforcement to forcibly bring in Leyla Guven to appear in court and postponed the hearing.
