Emergency call from TOHAV to CPT and UN: Come to Turkey! 2019-03-26 15:37:50 ISTANBUL - TOHAV made an urgent call to the UN Special Rapporteur and Committee for the Prevention of Torture (CPT) regarding the hunger strikes, saying: "We urge you to schedule an urgent visit to the Turkey to prevent torture and other forms of ill-treatment." The Community and Legal Research Foundation (TOHAV) urged the United Nations (UN) Special Rapporteur and the European Parliament on the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Punishment or Treatment (CPT). TOHAv said in their call: "In relation to your position, we are writing to invite you to exercise your powers against the routine administrative practices of the Turkish authorities, which are in absolute contradiction with the fundamental human rights stipulated in the United Nations Conventions and the European Convention for the Prevention of Torture. We invite you to schedule an emergency visit to avoid torture and other forms of ill-treatment. We have serious concerns about the violation of fundamental human rights, in particular the right to life and the right to health of prisoners on hunger strikes. The absolute prohibition of torture and other forms of ill-treatment is essentially at risk of violations. We ask you to communicate with the Ministry of Justice and other public authorities to make sure the independent committees and delegations to visit İmralıto ensure that the basic human rights of all prisoners and are properly applied the law of human rights.As this is a very urgent matter, we kindly ask you to respond promptly and positively."
