'The sentences of Tuncel and Kışanak is a message to opponent women' 2019-02-08 12:53:31 DİYARBAKIR - Attorney Keziban Yılmaz who stated that the verdict passed on Gültan Kışanak and Sebahat Tuncel is political and it is a message to all opponent women, said the verdict is contrary to even Turkey's laws itself. The law suit filed against Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality's discharged Co-mayor Gültan Kışanak and Democratic Districts Party Co-chair Sebahat Tuncel was determined. The fact that Kışanak received 14 years 3 months of jail time and Tuncel receieved15 years of jail time caused reaction.   Attorney Keziban Yılmaz stated that the verdict is not lawful, but political.   Attorney Yılmaz who stated that the regulations on  Law on Fight Against Terrorism and Turkish Criminal Code (TCK) which AKP government legislated since the day day came to power is not in accordance with the requirements and the needs of the society, said certain files, particularly the ones within the scope of membership or an organization is regulated with the drive of taking revenge.   Yılmaz who stated that according to the laws of the Republic of Turkey, being a  member of an illegal organization have some factors, said: "First of all, it is necessary to have a concrete knowledge and data that the person is in the organization, is subject to the hierarchy of the organization and that there is a connection with the organization. However Kışanak and Tuncel are being accused of their political activities and their speeches as party members.To punish them with these speaches  constitutes a violation of  constitutes a violation of its own laws even Turkey's own laws . Again, these verdicts also contradicts with the international conventions like European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR). If those laws could be practiced, neither Tuncel and Kışanak would be in prison nor subjected to any trial today."   Yılmaz who stated that the heavy penalty decision of the court is a message to all opponent women, especially the women who wants to participate in Kurdish politics.
