Police have testified at the hearing of the battered journalists 2019-01-30 14:28:52 İSTANBUL- The police testified in the trial of 22 journalists who were assaulted in the raid of Özgür Gündem newspaper which was closed down by a law decree. The trial was postponed. The third hearing of the case against 22 journalists detained on the events of the police raid after hours of the closure of Özgür Gündem newspaper on 16 August 2016i, was held in Istanbul 5th Criminal Court of First Instance.   Attorneys of the journalists and the witness police attended the hearing. Police Gökalp Ertaş, who was in the building at the time of the battering  was present as a complainant. Ertaş claimed the journalists had insulted and physically interfered with them but did not mentioned that they battered the journalists. Ertaş claimed he did not know if there was a camera filming the incident.   Witness police Muhammet Aygün also claimed in his statement that the journalists had hampered them during the search. Veysel Dursun also stated that they did not know that the journalists were broadcasting live when they entered the building, they wanted to close it when they realized the live broadcast; however  journalists resisted them.   The trial was postponed to June 19, 2019.
