Tiryaki: Depriving the prisoners of their right to vote is a violation of rights 2019-01-05 12:53:42 ANKARA- Mehmet Rüştü Tiryaki from HDP said: "A person registered in Diyarbakır might be sent to some other city's prison against their will. To deprive people of their right to vote for a reason they are not responsible from is a violation of rights."   While the time for local elections approaches, election frauds are surfacing.Along with the ban to move the election registrations in cities like Şırnak, Siirt, Hakkari, the new regulations of Supreme Committee of Elections (YSK) are in question. The new regulation of YSK banning prisoners to vote made the people question the reliability of the elections.     With a new regulation of YSK the prisoners can only vote if they are in the prison of the city they are registered in. Tiryaki said this is a violation of the right to vote and stand for election. Tiryaki reminding of the fact that prisoners could vote in the last elections, said: "This is a violation of the right to vote and stand for elections.Because the Ministry of Justice decides in which prison the prisoners will be sent to. People may end up in prisons far away from their city against their will. To deprive the people of their right to vote for a reason they are not responsible for is a violation of rights."     Tiryaki reminded that many members and administrators of HDP are in prison, said: "HDP is the party getting the most votes in prisons. We are talking about a party that has tens of thousands of members, executives, mayors, parliamentarians are in prison. This regulation of YSK is clearly for decreasing the votes of HDP. We will make applications for our detained members and executives to be able to vote."
