He walked to the gallows saying 'Death is as beautiful as life if it means something' 2018-10-25 14:09:24 ANKARA- Revolutionary Path militia Hıdır Aslan known to be the last person executed in Turkey wrote in his last letter: “Death is as beautiful as life if it means something.” 34 years have past since the death of Hıdır Aslan, a Revolutionary Path militia,  who was executed in Turkey. Hıdır Aslan  was born in Dersim, Hozat in 1958. A warrant was issued for him in 1978 for the charge of killing 3 police officers in an action of expropriation in İzmir. He was caught and put in prison in 1980. Aslan who was sent to Buca Prison, was sentenced to death after 4 years of trials and was executed on October 25, 1984.   His aunt in law told about Hıdır Aslan, "He was the youngest of our home, that's why we had a different kind of affection for him. He was always cheerful and witty. He was brave. Everyone loved him."   HIS LETTER WAS ON HIS CHEST   Meneş Aslan said when they claimed his body he had a letter, a towel and a bath wash cloth on his chest after his execution. Meneş Aslan spoke about the letter: " He told what he felt before his execution. And in his will, he wanted the letter to be read in his graveside. He said 'Open my casket so that everyone shall see me'. We did all he wanted."   'DEATH IS AS BEAUTIFUL AS LIFE IF IT MEANS SOMETHING'   Hıdır Aslan wrote in his letter: " If life is a ballad, I tried to sing it as the best of my ability. The time for the victory songs will come. I am going away happy knowing that I have chosen the righteous path. There is nothing unbearable if yoy are doing it for beautiful, nice things. Even death becomes simple. Death is beautiful as life if it means something. "
